Our commitment to you
At the Financial Times we aim to provide an accessible website for all our customers, including those who are older and who have disabilities. Our website is accredited accessible by the Digital Accessibility Centre, conforming to level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0).
WCAG 2.0 provides criteria to make websites more accessible for people with disabilities. We take our responsibilities in this area very seriously and maintain continued efforts to improve accessibility on FT.com. If you have any questions or feedback, please contact us.
This site was tested and found to be accessible to people using keyboard-only control, screen reader access on desktop and mobile, screen magnification and high-contrast mode. It has been tested by a team of experienced web analysts with disabilities. User testing has been conducted with individuals who are deaf, blind, colour blind, dyslexic, have low vision, are mobility impaired or have a learning difficulty.
We are currently developing a product that aims to bring some of our charts to life through the use of audio. We are keen to test this out with many different FT readers, including those with disabilities and visual impairments. If you would like to help us test this functionality, please register your interest here.
If you'd like to find out a bit more about what data sonification is, you can view this handy explainer video here.
The controls in the comments section of our articles are powered by a third party tool and currently have limited accessibility, which we're working to improve.
Video transcriptions and subtitles
Most of our videos provide close captioning (CC), however some older videos (dating back 2016 and beyond) will not have this functionality. If this causes any inconvenience please do not hesitate to contact us.
There may be a delay between a video being published on the site and the availability of its transcript and close captions while we create the transcript. If a video is not in English, there will be subtitles in English over the video but no transcript. Some of our videos do not have speech in them, so will never have a transcript.
We are committed to improving accessibility and we are working on providing transcripts for audio by reviewing our use of third party tools and services in order to provide the best experience for our users. We are currently trialing a 3rd party transcription tool, only selected podcasts will have transcripts during the trial. If this causes any inconvenience please do not hesitate to contact us.
We welcome your feedback. If you have any problems accessing our content or think there's additional information that should be included in this page, please contact us.
This accessibility statement was originally issued on November 2016. Latest update April 2018.
